How to Use Your Insurance

At panel clinics: Present your EMGS insurance E-card (digital or physical) together with your passport or student ID to receive cashless treatment.

At non-panel clinics (emergencies only): You may need to pay upfront, then keep the original tax invoice and medical report to file a claim within 30 days.

Finding panel clinics: You can check the nearest approved clinic through the EMGS mobile app for your selected insurance provider.

Hospitals Covered

Present your Insurance E-card at any of the following panel hospitals. No upfront payment is required for covered services.

Note: When visiting public hospitals as an international student, carry your original passport. The cashless payment system with your Insurance E-card does not apply at private hospitals, so be prepared to pay upfront and keep all invoices and medical reports for reimbursement.

Recommended Clinics

Popular clinics among Sudanese students in the Taman Universiti and Skudai area. Best for GP visits, prescriptions, and minor treatments.

Understanding Your Options

Differences between EMGS Health Insurances

Etiqa, Great Eastern, and The Pacific Insurance

When applying through EMGS, students choose one provider (such as Etiqa, Great Eastern, or The Pacific Insurance).

  • Basic coverage: The core benefits are generally aligned and comply with Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education requirements.
  • Hospital acceptance: Major hospitals in Johor often accept all three providers, but smaller clinics may vary by district.
  • Main difference: Claim handling and management method differ - Etiqa and Pacific depend more on app/web claim submission, while Great Eastern commonly uses administrator-assisted processes.

Difference between Public and Private Hospitals

Private Hospitals

  • Insurance processing: Usually supports direct claim support. With your EMGS E-card and passport, hospitals may verify coverage with the insurer first.
  • Waiting time: Faster for appointments, admissions, and elective procedures.
  • Cost and limits: Higher charges can consume your annual insurance limit quickly if treatment is long.
  • Medical scope and comfort: Better room options and service experience, suitable for routine illnesses, planned procedures, and moderate emergencies.

Public Hospitals

  • Insurance processing: Immediate cashless support is uncommon. Students usually pay first, then claim reimbursement from the insurer.
  • Waiting time: Emergency cases are prioritized, while non-urgent appointments can take longer.
  • Cost and limits: Lower treatment cost helps preserve your insurance annual limit.
  • Medical scope and care: Strong choice for major accidents, critical conditions, and complex surgeries due to larger trauma capacity.
